Jessica Bruder’s book chronicles the experiences of a group of older Americans who, following the recession of 2007-2009, adopted transient lifestyles traveling around the United States in search of seasonal work. The book was named a “Notable Book” by the New York Times, was a finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Prize and the Helen Bernstein Book Award, and won the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award. It was adapted into a short documentary film, CamperForce, and more recently was made into a movie, also called Nomadland, currently streaming on Hulu.
You can check out Nomadland from the Dekalb County Public Library (though there is currently a backlog of people with requests in for the book, you can check out a digital copy of the book through the library’s Overdrive service). You can also order a copy of Nomadland the book online through Bookshop.org, where a portion of the book sales go to local bookstores, or through your favorite online or offline retailer.
